At a special screening in Mumbai, Benegal received a standing ovation from the assembled audience. “It was an honour for me that Bangladesh PM and Mujib’s daughter liked the film,” he said, referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who had actively supported the project’s development. In Bangladesh, the film was initially hailed as a box office success, reportedly “breaking all box office records of the country”.
