Following the 1997 death of The Notorious B.I.G., Sean “P. Diddy” Combs was searching for a new gritty voice to carry the label's street credibility. He found it in Shyne, a young rapper from Brooklyn whose deep, gravelly voice and lyrical delivery were immediately compared to the late legend.
